Aquifer Protection Areas

The Aquifer Protection Areas depicted on this map are bedrock aquifer protection zones defined by Stratex, LLC under contract to the Town of Westport Island in 2001.  These areas are natural collection basins for ground water that serves many of the island's residents for drinking water.  Since these areas interconnect groundwater for many residents, special care must be takes to protect against contamination.  Contamination on one parcel can result in contaminated well water for many other parcels in the zone.  Questions on activities that should be restricted in these areas can be answered by the Code Enforcement Officier or the Plumbing Inspector.
